Dan DeMarco Before he started rocking cathedrals with his chamber pop outfit North Sea Radio Orchestra, Craig Fortnam made music with Shrubbies, a quirky pop unit that fused classical guitar plucking and neo-classical composition with conventional rock instrumentation. Memphis in Texas is the band at their genre-blending peak. Favorite track: sabled fur.

Louis Jagger In the same year as Cardiacs' final album (so far), the first real tremors of their glorious musical furtherance-by-proxy began to emerge. The Monsoon Bassoon's album was merely very good; this was stupendous and its continued obscurity is a crime against art. The Fortnams aren't just Smith clones either; they have their own delirious folk-pop sensibilities and it's a privilege to be able to listen to their music. Favorite track: no sounds.
